DENISE COVENTRY – TRANSFORMATION SPECIALIST
Why did you choose to work with a weight loss program? There was never a question about it. By the time I was 5 years old, I freed all of our chickens and rabbits, announcing we were not going to eat meat anymore. This of course did not happen. By 6th grade, I had taken over all of the cooking for our family, the shopping lists, the menu, the dinner preparation and was the Teacher’s Assistant for Home Economics. I loved everything to do with nutritious meals and I’ve always believed whole foods are the answer to health. I was thrilled to learn a degree existed in Nutrition and people actually could be paid for this type of work!
Do you have a specific career goal? Absolutely! I would like to have a commercially successful book relating to all of the amazing things that happen inside and outside of your body when healthy body weight is achieved. I would also like to become more involved in the study of your personal genome and how you can leverage the greatest genetic set of cards you can have through the use of foods and bioactive substances.
Do you have a personal philosophy about weight loss? My philosophy about weight loss is that it is a process. While the magical things are in process a person needs to engage fully and live their life. Don’t allow weight to hold back the essence of who you are as an individual or to hinder your development.
What’s your favorite tip for staying healthy and fit? What you do in your 20s you reap in your 40s. While this is true for most things, the idea is to take care of yourself now, so you will be reaping the benefits again later. Do the things you love, Zumba, walking in the park, spin class, yoga, and then nourish your body. You will be much more cautious of choices you make after you just treated yourself to your favorite exercise. Lastly, buy beautiful workout goodies right now. You deserve them, and they’ll also help inspire you to stay on track to achieving your goals.
Who is your hero? Of course, my family! (……. and Sandra Day O’Connor) Who else sees you through, cares, and does the real work that is meaningful to you? Your family! I have 5 generations in Arizona. Knowing the hardships of creating a life before the territory was a state astounds me still. I also admire Sandra Day O’Connor as the first Arizona woman to get a job with her law degree back when the West was still wild.
What’s your favorite movie? Bridesmaids still makes me laugh! If I’m feeling lazy, I can watch Gladiators and immediately feel like I’m ready for more ab work.
Do you have a hobby or special cause you support? I have the cutest chicken coop that I love to raise chicks in. I like to take our lab Ginger on a run each weekend, and I also love to bike, hike and garden (and tour other gardener’s gardens!). It’s amazing to see what people can grow in Arizona! My husband and I also support the Boys and Girls Club and Wounded Warrior Foundation.
