Listen to your doctor. When you’re carrying extra weight – there’s usually more going on than just overeating. Your body chemistry, genetics and lifestyle all matter.
That’s why it’s important to take charge and get the sludge out. That might mean cleaning up your diet and detoxing, drinking more water, having your hormones and thyroid levels checked, getting up from the computer or couch and getting outside for some exercise, a combination of these factors, or all of the above.
And let’s face it, we all could do better in these areas. Over the next few weeks and into the New Year we’ll be talking about how to get healthier and shed excess weight.
Step One: More Water, Less Sugar
It’s no secret our relationship with sugar is toxic. We talked about it here. And here. It’s time to break your sugar addiction – difficult during the holidays, we know, but being aware can make the difference between having a reasonable serving and an unholy binge.
Choose lighter alcoholic drinks. Fill up on crudités and healthy proteins, wait for an hour and then see how you feel. If you’re still feeling the need for something sweet, have a small chocolate. Savor it as it melts in your mouth. The key is mindful enjoyment.
